Talkin' bout radio...What's 2016 way-cool is one can listen to our familiar AM and FM Stations on computers, Laptops and Smartphone Apps.
Interesting that the Smartphones we hold in our hands nowadays are about the same size (slimmer, of course) as those 50s 60s Transistor Radios we carried around back in the day. TuneIn radio is a cool free app. Also, iheart radio. Of course, Apple itunes are some popular radio apps.

T.G.I.F. Blue Collar Michigan Scholar's (written while listening to some great old jazz,
Art Blakey and Jazz Messengers Paris 1958...with a little Beethoven for good measure) Rap:

In Search of...

Why Is

Donald Trump's Official 2016 Presidential Campaign

Not Running

Election Campaign

TV Ads

in Michigan?
(Update: Donald Trump Campaign as of Thursday, September 1st Is Now Running Election Campaign TV ads in Michigan).

We Have 16 Electoral Votes.
We are a Battleground,
Swing-State in
Presidential Contest.
One of 3 or 4 possible and probable key swing states that could...
Decide
Whom the next President of US is.

Plus...

The Republican Party was

Born...
In Michigan...July 1854, Jackson, Michigan at Under The Oaks on Morgan's Forty.
First Official Convention.
First Official Platform.
First Official Republican Candidates Nominated.
The Big Three.
Oh,
Did
I
Mention...
Abraham Lincoln...
I Rest My Case.

Donald Trump Won Michigan's 2016 Republican Presidential Primary and

Is the

Nominee of the 2016 Republican Party.
What Gives?

Where are the Campaign TV ads?

Don't Get It.

It Don't compute.

What in Sam's Hill is Goin' On?

On the Other Hand...

Hillary Clinton's Official 2016 Presidential Campaign Has Been Running Election Campaign TV Ads for...

Weeks and Weeks in Michigan.

Also, Haven't heard Trump or Clinton on  A.M. Radio Ad Buys, either.
Possible they are on Michigan A.M. or F.M, XM Sirius Radio stations that I don't listen to.
Local AM and FM radio are very cost-effective solutions for Michigan political campaigns.

Heard one of the Michigan Presidential Primary Candidates on the Radio constantly in the weeks preceeding the March 2016 Michigan Presidential Primary.
Didn't win Michigan's Presidential Primary, but did pretty darn good.
Wonder if local radio played a role in that?

While driving in their vehicles, Michigan citizens listen to something and alot of times its the raydidio (funny expression for radio from back in the day).
Radio plays in waiting rooms if TV isn't possible.
TV plays, too, in certain customer waiting environments.

Still...Today, in a Wi-Fi, Smartphone world...
In 2016...
Television is still...
The Big Kahuna (an old time saying).

T.V.

is still

the Most

Popular

Form of Media in

2016...along with Radio, of course.

The "Picture Show"(as they called it in the Golden Years of The Silver Screen)...the
Movie Theatre.
Still fun...

They even have Ads and Commercials running before the Main feature at the movie theaters. Saw some local businesses...auto dealers, restaurants...etc. advertise on the theater screen.

Television travels...
Across all Demographics.
All.
That's Huge!

For Example,

Nowadays, Lots of People have 1, 2, 3 or more TVs in different areas of their households. Bedrooms, kitchens...heck, probably garages, too!

TV is Extremely User Friendly...Fancy Pants Word for

Easy to Use!

The Remote Control is the Original Computer mouse, if you get my drift.

Heck, the 1st Remote Control I remember using had a long chord attached at the bottom of the Remote Control, the chord ran many feet across the floor, to the TV across the Room. TVs were in Nice Wood enclosures, looked like furniture, and had glass tubes for Screens. 25 inch Screens. Some TVs were "color" tvs which meant you could watch TV programs in color if they were filmed that way.
First shows I remember in color were Bonanza and The Wonderful World of Disney on Sunday nights.
That was Awesome for us Sixties kids (cartoons)...and parents, too!
Seem to remember everything else on Tv in those days past was viewed in black and white.

Back to Remote Controls...ease of use...
Batteries goin' bad (easily replacable) and lost remote syndrome (you, too?)

...how did the remote get over there? You know what I'm talkin' about.

Push Remote's On button, start surfing the Television channels.

It don't get no simpler than that.

Heck, these remote controls withstand almost any form of punishment, nowadays.
Still can't figure out why dogs like to chew on them!

If the Remote Control breaks, we can always get up off the couch (oh, no...not that!) and Push Buttons on the Tv...like the 1950's and Sixties.

Anyhoo, Back to importance of TV.

A Majority of us still rely on our Great Local News stations for locally flavored news, weather, sports...etc. Those local stations and reporters are wonderful and positive.

Hillary Clinton has been running ads on some of the local news stations for weeks.

Also, alot watch the Sunday Morning Political shows on the original 3 Tv networks ABC, CBS, NBC in Michigan.

Hillary Clinton has been running ads on some of these shows.

Also, as local news segues into 6:30 evening news programs on ABC, CBS, NBC Hillary Clinton has been running ads for weeks.

Traditionally...

A Presidential Candidates Ad buy on TV is Responded to By the Other Party Candidate for President.

That's our Experience.

Not everyone See's the rallys by Mr. Trump and Mrs. Clinton.

Eveyone sees the Political Commercials.
Does get tiresome after awhile, doesn't it?
Like everyone, can't wait till the election is over.
You, too?

Wonder what the Cable TV Views/News talking heads will talk endlessly about then?

Sure they will give their opinions, talk over and interupt the opposing view(if they even have an "opposing viewpoint" opposite theirs.)
Gotta get that commercial in the time alotted, probably.
It does pay the networks bills...and salaries.
Makin' the big bucks, as they used to say.
Must be nice...
to have a job that can't be outsourced.
They ought to walk a mile in our Michigan shoes...
then
give their opinion.
Just sayin'!

Anyhoo...

Some TV Commercials are Memorable...
and Some...
Extremely Memorable from Sixties and Seventies.
Maytag Man.(My Generation)
It's Not Nice to Fool With Mother Nature.(heck, 50 yrs ago...can't remember the product.)
Palmolive Dish Liquid (Madge says, You're soaking in it (manicure).

Consumer Purchasing Habits are Influenced because they learn about the advertised product(s) in Tv Ads.
Yupper!
Commercials Make a Difference.
Ask Darren Stevens (Ad Guy) on Bewitched Tv Show (My Generation. Elizabeth Montgomery was Awesome!)
Ask any Grocery Shopper.
Ask any buyer, purchaser of goods and services in Our Great USA.
Ask Madison Avenue.

Marketing and Advertising.
Quick, to the point.
Audio and Visual.
Best points of product.
Nowadays with a little humor added.
Something that makes the goods, services or product "stick to the brain"...memorable...
Why the product is different than all the rest.
Healthier, economical, safer, luxurious...etc.
All done in 15, 30, 45 or 60 seconds.

Somehow this helps us remember

What to Choose...

When We Decide.

Promotes Consumer Spending.

Makes the Wheels of the American Economy Rock and Roll Forward.
Fueled by...Good Payin' Jobs.
...and the Big Wheel keeps on Turning.
What a Great Combo.

In Michigan, the Motor Vehicle Capital of the World...
Where...
Ford Motor
General Motors
Chrysler were Born.
Blue-Collar, White-Collar...whatever collar.
We Like those darn Car and Truck commercials.
Know Why?
Because We Build Them...And...
Buy Them.

And We Want Our
Jobs, Jobs, Jobs to
come
Back Home to
Michigan.
Who Can Renegotiate / Negotiate the Greatest Trade Deals for Michigan and The U.S.
Not Just Change We Can Believe In...
"Change" turning into Dollars in Our Wallets and Purses...
from these J.O.B.S Comin' Back Home to...
Michigan.

Been Ramblin' On...
Back to The Importance of Michigan Presidential Campaign Ads.

Michigan Presidential Campaign Tv Ads and Other Michigan Political Position Campaign TV ads are Viewed by Most Everyone in the Great State of Michigan.

They are an extremely important facet of any Presidential campaign.

Most people have limited time, if they're working raising a family, in a shop, factory, office, various working environments, running a small or even large business...etc.

You get the drift.

Plopping down in front of the tube at the end of a hard day and relaxing is an enjoyable (usually, if something is good on tv that night...Thank you, DVR.)
TV is part of the American Popular Cultural Experience.

Always has been,
always will.

Music. Universal Language. Music. Speaks to Everyone. All demographics in our United States. Music genres from Big Band Swing, Country, Blues, Rockabilly, Folk, Jazz, Rock and Roll, Classical, Bluegrass, Electric, Acoustic, Brass and more. We "vote" with our feet, dancing to it or walking away. We "vote" with our ears daily, with changeable listening habits by channel-surfing radio stations, pre-programming cd tracks, songs on playlists until we hear that One song. Then another. Play it again, Sam, if it rocks. The music plus the words, the memories. Plus, most importantly, the Beat. It Don't Mean a Thing, If It Ain't Got That Swing (Duke Ellington, Ella Fitzgerald, Tony Bennett Lady GaGa).
Get the Okey Dokey from the musicians to use some of our favorite Michigan Soul and Rock and Rollers songs on this list at your campaign events in our great Wolverine state and all the other states of the union. Your endorsements help the artists, and we like hearing their songs. Their music, brings back memories, makes the campaign events, rallies, townhalls, ads, commercials, videos even more memorable for us.
The Big 3 song ingredients (listening to music, cruising down those old roads and highways in our cars and trucks is a popular topic, forever written about in popular music) of Music, Words, and Beat create Memories, a Final Four, if you will, my sports analogy, of song ingredients. Hearing the song for the first time, we like it or we don't. We know immediately. Sometimes, repeated listening to a song that we didn't like at first, leads to a greater appreciation of the tune. We begin to enjoy it.

Sporting venues, stadiums serve dual music roles. During basketball, baseball, football, hockey games ...etc., different song's lyrical content are utilized to inspire the fan's and players. Second, live bands, musicians, organizations and political campaigns utilize these same venues for concerts, speaking engagements and campaign rallies.
Similar to sports, politics are competitive and a competition in the arena of ideas, ideals, solutions. They are disimilar in various areas and aspects, also.

Movie soundtracks present a perfect example of the power of memorable songs matched to certain scenes in the picture. Especially the epilogue. Hmmm. Maybe political campaigns of the future might want to issue a soundtrack for their individual campaigns. Video single or album. Getting the artist's or musicians ok, of course, which is understandably challenging because politics can be divisive; music brings people together and transcends politics.
More political candidate musicians might be in our future. Famously, Arkansas's Governor Bill Clinton played tenor saxophone on Arsenio Hall's talk show in 1992. If you weren't keeping up with politics back then, like alot of us didn't, that musical event was newsworthy in that day and time. Different. Memorable. He went on to become President of the United States. Arkansas' former Governor Mike Huckabee, 2008, 2016 election cycles presidential candidate is an accomplished bass player. At the end of his live Sunday night "Huckabee" Tv program, 2008-2015 on Fox News, he would play bass in his band, ending each show with a song. Sometimes with his Tv show's visiting musical guests. Interestingly, both Bill Clinton and Mike Huckabee are musician's and former Governor's from Arkansas. Cool and "hat's off" to the great state of Arkansas.
Read that Mike Huckabee is a big fan of Michigan's Grand Funk Railroad Mike Huckabee on why Music is More than Just a Hobby and his Grand Funk Railroad Story. September 8 2007 Making Music Magazine Article. The strong, driving bass beat was a unique, distinguishing factor and major ingredient of the Grand Funk Railroad sound, as were their amazing vocals, guitar playing, drumming and keyboards. Originals. Unique. Blue Collar Michigan Rock and Roll at it's finest. They sold out New York's Shea Stadium and Madison Square Garden. Mike Huckabee is accomplished on bass guitar, it makes perfect sense he would enjoy Grand Funk Railroad. "We're an American Band" is a classic American blue-collar rock and roll song. Still hear it on FM radio 40 yrs later, along with Grand Funk's hit cover of Little Eva's "Locomotion".To have Flint, Michigan's Grand Funk Railroad Band nominated, voted for, and inducted into The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Museum in Cleveland, Ohio would be "Some Kind of Wonderful" and broadcast to the world the musical significance and contribution Grand Funk Railroad made to rock and roll music history, and make the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland, Ohio even "Closer to Home" for us in Michigan.

If TV commercials contain popular music, why not candidates campaigns tv ads, online video ads, banner ads? One day, maybe future politicos, politicians, will write and perform their own songs. Could be a mix of fun and serious, of course. Release their cd on their campaign website or Music video with lyrics. Free download or voluntary donation. Direct to a charity of our choice. Of course, depends on current campaign finance law guidelines. Candidates could Draw on their Inner Dylan, Johnny Cash, Waylon, Beatles, Hemingway, Shakespeare and write timeless lyrics. Choose the right musical notes, chords, instrumentation. Voila! A single or album with video and lyrics included, of course. With today's digital music tools and software extremely cost-effective, shouldn't be too hard. Will Billboard, Rolling Stone or other musical media enterprise have a Top 10 Political singles, album's or video's chart list if this became popular? Cool, uncool, who knows?

Since the Gop convention 2016 is being held in Cleveland, Ohio this year, makes alot of sense to visit Cleveland's Historic Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Museum Site. Great place to start your music history lessons. Visitor's to the website can vote for each years nominee's. Awesome! Detroit, Michigan's Motown Museum Site is cool. The Motown Sound Changed Music history and created new, favorites, classics, timeless, original music standards we still tap our foot to today and hear on TV, movie soundtracks, commercials, radio and music playlists. Remember, every state has their own homegrown music recording artists. Use their songs, if it's OK with the musicians, of course. Might getcha' a coupla of votes, probably more. Just sayin'. My advice and a couple of George Washington's gets you a great cup of coffee at the local diner. Don't forget to tip the waitress! She's workin' hard to pay those bills, like the rest of us. : ) Thanks.

C-SPAN 1 Eastern Time 7 am to 10 am

Being new to the art of blogging, one constantly asks themselves, "What do I write about?" in the blog. With access to cable TV in close proximity to my computer, another blogging subject came to mind. Being a channel-surfer, I stopped on C-Span channel one and noticed Washington Journal was in the middle of a live broadcast. In summary, C-Span's Washington Journal program has one & sometimes two guests (if two guests, usually on opposing sides of the political spectrum concerning the topic, but not always) opining on the chosen morning's topic at hand. I happened to be on the Blogger website, and was going to write a blog post. Voila! A blog topic miraculously appeared in my mind. Why not blog about C-Span Washington Journal? As an aside, I highly recommend having other forms of media around you in real-time when you are attempting to blog brainstorm about possible topics. Television worked for me in this instance, because it was in the same room as my computer. I'll blog more about this in a future blogging post.
I noticed during the show that call-in phone numbers for the show were not constantly displaying on the television screen. Probably because it does somewhat distract a viewer from the visual aspects of the excellent show. Understandable. Problem was, I was thinking about calling in, and the numbers were on their temporary hiatus. (Note to self: program them in your phone, you big dummy. Noted!) So here I type. I searched Google and found a few sites with the phone numbers. I had visited C-Span's site, but they were not right there and I was impatient and did not feel like excavating through their great website. Google would be much faster I figured, and I was right. To be fair, MSN & Yahoo would have performed admirably, too & probably other search engines. Plus, Blogger is owned by Google and since they let us bloggers blog for free, I thought I'd give them a click to return the favor! So that's why that list of C-SPAN Washington Journal Contact Information Call-In Phone Numbers is at the top of this blog post. If you ever have an AHA moment, feel like calling in while watching Washington Journal wanting to voice your opinion to the guest and viewing public, and the darned phone numbers happen to not be on the screen at that time & you don't have them programmed in your phone's memory, you can click my blog post! Hey, I'm trying. Good old American Ingenuity. uaw
